Watkins previously served 16 years as a city council member. He is married to Leah Watkins and they have two children. Tony and Leah own Pearl Street Furniture Company. Watkins has championed the rebirth of Downtown Darlington with the Darlington Downtown Loft Apartments. Five buildings on and around the Public Square have been turned into 27-loft style apartments with four new retail spaces. Mayor Watkins is a former Marine who served in Vietnam and later he became the first graduate of Francis Marion College. City of Darlington Mayor and Council The City of Darlington has a Manager/Council form of local government. Howard Garland is City Manager and Tony Watkins is Mayor of the City of Darlington. The following are a listing of the Mayor and City Council. Darlington City Council meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City of Darlington Council Chambers at City Hall located at 400 Pearl Street. From time-to-time Darlington City Council has work sessions at the City of Darlington Administration Conference room at 410 Pearl Street.
